BROOKLANDVILLE, Md. - Laura Simanski (Reisterstown, Md./Roland Park) and Ali Mattingly (Davidsonville, Md./South River) each recorded five goals to lead the University of Cincinnati lacrosse team to a 12-10 victory over LeMoyne in nonconference action at St. Paul's School for Girls on Sunday afternoon.
UC (6-10) went up, 2-0, with two goals from Mattingly in the first seven minutes of the game. LeMoyne (5-11) put its first goal on the scoreboard at the 22:51 mark of the first period. Mattingly put two more goals in the back of the net before the Dolphins rallied with two unanswered goals and tying the game, 4-4, with 12:21 left in the period. Lynsey Burton (Smithtown, N.Y./Ohio), Simanski, and Lindsey Marshall (Hilliard, Ohio/Ohio) each scored a goal over the final 10 minutes of the period, giving the Bearcats a 7-5 advantage at halftime.
LeMoyne scored first in the second period. Mattingly and Simanski each scored a goal over 1:15, giving UC a 9-6 lead. LeMoyne put two goals on the scoreboard before Simanski rattled off two more goals, maintaining UC's lead, 11-8, with 20:26 to go. Simanski scored UC's final goal with 12:30 left in the game and UC held on for the win, 12-10.
Mattingly, Simanski, Burton, Jenn Doran (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and Natalie Starvaggi (Loveland, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) each recorded an assist in the win. Katherine Russo (Westminster, Md./Winters Mills) had 15 saves in goal for the Bearcats.
UC will play next on Monday, April 27 against Detroit at Indian Hill High School in Cincinnati. The final game for UC lacrosse in the 2009 season will begin at 7 p.m.
