TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team ended its run in the BIG EAST Conference Women's Tennis Championships today (April 18) with a 4-3 loss to St. John's at the University of South Florida.
For the third straight day, the Bearcats picked up the doubles point as the No. 1 team of Ksenia Slynko and Valeriya Dandik and the No. 3 tandem of Safiyya Ismail and Jessica Wise each posted 8-2 victories to give UC a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
Slynko and Wise put the Bearcats within a match of securing the win in singles play with 6-4, 6-3 and 6-4, 6-4 victories, respectively, but St. John's pulled out two three-set wins to take the overall match.
Cincinnati (16-9, 6-2 BIG EAST) finished in 10th place in the BIG EAST. Since the program started in 1973-74, this is just the fourth season UC has posted 16 or more wins.
