CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati baseball team hosts Xavier University at Marge Schott Stadium on Wednesday, April 29, at 6:30 p.m. for Glenn Sample Night. Sample, who coached the UC baseball team for 20 seasons, passed away on Nov. 21, 2008.
Prior to Wednesday's game, there will be a brief ceremony honoring Coach Sample.
Sample coached the Bearcats for 21 years, amassing a 391-333-7 record. His 391 wins are the most wins of any coach in program history. He directed UC to four NCAA Tournament appearances and two Missouri Valley Conference titles, while sending more than 50 players on to the professional ranks. Along with his baseball responsibilities, Sample also served as UC's wrestling coach and assistant director of athletics during his tenure. Sample is a member of the University of Cincinnati Hall of Fame and his number (1) is one of two numbers retired by the UC baseball program.
Sample also served as the Cincinnati Reds official scorekeeper since 1979 and the 2009 season would have been his 30th in the Reds press box.
This season, the Bearcats are wearing a "GS" patch on their sleeve to honor Cincinnati's all-time winningest coach.
Single-game tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for youth, and $1 per person for groups of 10 or more.
