CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Five University of Cincinnati swimmers are competing this weekend at the Charlotte UltraSwim, the fifth stop in the six-meet USA Swimming Grand Prix Series at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte, N.C.
Jeremy Peter and Josh Schneider from the men's team will compete while the women's squad will be represented by Stephanie Conklin, Elinore de Jong, Lange Gilby, and Liz Hansson.
Several U.S. Olympians are scheduled to compete in the meet, including Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, Christine Magnuson, Aaron Peirsol, and Cullen Jones. The meet is scheduled to run through Sunday.
The Charlotte UltraSwim will be broadcast LIVE on the Universal Sports television network and webcast LIVE on Swimnetwork.com. The meet is a long-course meet in 50-meter pool. NCAA events take place on a short-course pool that measures 25 yards.
In Friday preliminary action, Conklin qualified for the 'C' final in the 100-meter breaststroke, clocking 1:14.40 to place 23rd in the 40-swimmer field. She will swim this evening in the 'C' final.
In other qualifying races, Peter was 60th in the 400 individual medley with a time of 5:06.18, de Jong had a 100 butterfly time of 1:04.52 to place in the top half of the 66-swimmer event, and Schneider had timed in at 57.89 to place 43rd in the 100 butterfly preliminaries.
Universal Sports will air footage from the A, B and C finals Friday, May 15 through Sunday, May 17. Olympic gold medalist Rowdy Gaines will provide color commentary for the broadcast and Steve Schlanger will handle the play-by-play duties.
Swimnetwork.com will provide a LIVE online stream of the Universal Sports broadcast. In addition, Swimnetwork.com will also webcast the prelims from each day of competition. Swimnetwork.com will also feature on-demand footage of the Friday, Saturday and Sunday night finals as well as behind-the-scenes interviews with Olympic gold medalist Mel Stewart.
