CINCINNATI - Starting with the 2009-10 academic year, the University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics will partner with local area elementary schools to engage the FUTURE BEARCATS in the city the ages of 13 & under. The program kicked off today with a luncheon, sponsored by bd's Mongolian Grill, in the UCATS Club of Fifth Third Arena where local area elementary principals learned about the exciting new programs from UC Athletics.

New University of Cincinnati head women's basketball coach Jamelle Elliott and Associate head football coach Kerry Coombs spoke to the group.

"I had been looking to become a head coach for some time and had not found anywhere worth moving to until I came to the University of Cincinnati. It is important for me to build a championship program in a city with a community that has so much passion for the Bearcats. We will do our best to engage the community as build we build towards championships. Please let us know how we can connect with you and your school," said Elliott.

"We are making this school the city's university. We here at the University of Cincinnati's football program and all of our sports teams want to make the city proud. Our FUTURE BEARCATS program and student-athletes show our youth out there that with hard work in and out of school, students can come to a great university in their own home town," said Coombs. "There is reason why we wear CINCINNATI on our jerseys".

Director of Ticket Sales and Special Events, Brad Wurthman shared about the FUTURE BEARCATS, DREAM EXPERIENCES. "Dream experiences provide Cincinnati youth with the opportunity to participate in the game! Activities include opportunity to form the tunnel on the field before the game, tour the UC Athletics facilities, meet the players and more!"

"Schools also have an opportunity to purchase tickets at an inexpensive rate and sell them at a higher price for school fundraisers," says Greg Harrell, Director of Ticket Sales, Special Events.

For the first year, UC Athletics will also offer it's first ever essay writing contest. Grades 1-8 are asked to write an essay, "My favorite thing about Cincinnati", due to the UC Athletics Ticket office by October 31, 2009.
