CINCINNATI - First-year head women's basketball coach Jamelle Elliott has announced the signing of Chanel Chisholm (Long Island, N.Y./North Babylon/Vanderbilt) and Elese Daniel (South Bend, Ind./Clay) to continue their athletic and academic careers at the University of Cincinnati.

"Chanel and Elese will be terrific additions to our program," Elliott said.

Chisholm, a native of Long Island, N.Y., spent two seasons at Vanderbilt where she played in 53 career games. She averaged 5.0 points per game in 2008-09, helping the Commodores to the Southeastern Conference Tournament Championship and a spot in the NCAA Sweet 16 . A 5-11 guard, Chisholm was a Street & Smith's honorable mention all-American following her senior campaign at North Babylon High School, where she led the Bulldogs to the state finals. She was an all-state selection and named the 2007 all-Island Team Player of the Year by Long Island Hoops. A McDonald's All-America nominee, she played for the Long Island Silver Bullets and the New York Liberty Belles on the AAU circuit. The daughter of Durena and Reginald Chisholm, she will sit out the 2009-10 season due to NCAA transfer guidelines and will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning with the 2010-11 campaign.

"Chanel comes to us from a very good Vanderbilt program where she has been part of championship teams," Elliott commented. "She is a big guard with a scorer's mentality that can play inside and we look forward to her final two years here."

Daniel, a 5-11 forward from South Bend, Ind., was a four-year starter at Clay High School where she averaged 12.1 points and a team-leading 7.9 rebounds per game as a senior. She earned first-team all-conference and honorable mention all-state honors as a senior and finished her prep career as her school's second-leading rebounder and 10th-leading scorer. A two-sport athlete, Daniel also excelled in track in field as a four-time city and section champion in the 400 meters. She qualified for the state championships each of her four seasons and earned conference MVP honors following her senior year. The daughter of Darrell and Shredia Daniel, she plans to major in journalism.

"Elese is an intense competitor who is extremely quick and an exceptional athlete," Elliott said. "She is a post player who wants to be coached and has a great work ethic."

The two join Daress McClung (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North), Bryonna Snow (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs), and Shareese Ulis (Toledo, Ohio/Toledo Waite/Trinity Valley CC) to form UC's 2009-10 recruiting class.
