With two days remaining in the American League balloting for starters for the 2009 Major League Baseball All-Star Game in St. Louis on July 14, former University of Cincinnati baseball player and current Boston Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis leads New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira by 40,047 votes. Youkilis and Teixeira have swapped spots for the past five weeks and last week, Teixeira was ahead by 35,632 ballots.
Youkilis is currently tied for eighth in the American League with a .310 batting average and owns 12 home runs and 42 RBI in 62 games.
Youkilis and current teammate Dustin Pedroia are locked in the two closest races for All-Star starting roles.
