CINCINNATI - Following a five-year career where he became the University of Cincinnati's all-time saves leader, former UC closer Jake Geglein (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) has signed a free agent contract with the Texas Rangers.

The Cincinnati native finished his career with 20 saves, becoming the first player in UC history to reach that milestone. In 2009, Geglein led UC in wins (6), saves (9), and appearances (29), while posting a team-best 2.97 ERA in 39.1 innings of work.

"My five years at Cincinnati flew by and every year was better than the one before," Geglein said. "I'll miss the coaches and playing at a great facility like Marge Schott Stadium in front of the hometown crowd."

Geglein is the third player from Cincinnati's 2009 squad to sign with a Major League Baseball organization, joining 11th-round MLB Draft choice of the Oakland Athletics, Mike Spina, and 14th-round selection of the Toronto Blue Jays, Lance Durham.
