NEW ORLEANS - The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its 2009 Women's Division I All-Academic Track and Field Teams on Wednesday and the University of Cincinnati women's track and field team was one of 130 programs to receive the honor.
UC had a cumulative team GPA of 3.173 and had impressive indoor and outdoor seasons. During the Indoor campaign, Cincinnati placed seventh at the BIG EAST Conference Indoor Championships, marking the best finish since joining the conference during the 2005-06 season. At the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships, the Bearcats added a sixth-place finish.
The BIG EAST led all conferences with ten teams selected as All-Academic Teams for 2009 - UC, DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Rutgers, St. John's, Louisville, USF, Villanova, and West Virginia. The Big 12 Conference was a close second with eight teams selected to the list. The Atlantic Coast Conference and the Mid-American Conference each had seven teams selected as All-Academic Track and Field Teams.
On Monday, July 13, UC freshmen Michelle Eby and Mackenzie Fields, and sophomore Lilian Jelimo were named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team after reaching NCAA Regional qualifying marks in their respective events while posting GPA's greater than 3.25.
To be nominated, the team must carry a minimum 3.000 cumulative grade-point average.
