NEW ORLEANS - The University of Cincinnati men's track and field team was one of 67 Division I programs selected to the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team, the organization announced today.
Cincinnati was one of three BIG EAST squads to be named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, joining DePaul and Louisville.
UC's men's track and field team consisted of 55 student athletes combining for a team GPA of 3.042. For the second year in a row, UC finished fourth at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships, tying its highest finish since joining the BIG EAST in 2006. Cincinnati had 13 athletes qualify for the NCAA Mid-East Regional and one athlete, junior Antione Drakeford, earned USTFCCCA All-American honors after finishing 13th in the 400 meters and the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Earlier this week, UC seniors Chad Hanson, Ian Jarman, and Randy King were three of 327 student-athletes representing 107 Division I institutions to earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors.
To be nominated for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honor, the program must carry a minimum 3.000 cumulative grade-point average.
