CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - The University of Cincinnati women's golf team has been honored for its academic success by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA), the organization announced.
UC's program held a 3.588 grade point average during the 2008-09 academic year, which ranked 18th in the nation. Idaho held the nation's top team GPA at 3.780, earning the NGCA All-Scholar Team Award. The award recognizes the women's collegiate golf program with the highest collective team GPA which includes all of the team's student-athletes for the 08-09 season. Cincinnati was tops in the BIG EAST, with Georgetown (3.535 GPA) also ranked in the Top 25 at No. 23.
The NGCA also announced its All-American Scholar Teams, with a total of 410 golfers recognized across Division I, II, and III. UC's Bambee Dela Paz (Caloocan City, Philippines/Miriam College), Marianne Erb (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson), Kate Moore (Shepparton, Australia/Goulburn Valley Grammar), Kristin Price (Dandridge, Tenn./Jefferson County), and Sarah Stamper (Covington, Ky./Villa Madonna) each earned All-America Scholar honors.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50% (Division I) or 66% (Division II & III) of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
The Bearcats again led the BIG EAST on the All-American Scholar Teams, tying with USF with five selections each.
"These awards are a testament to the dedication of our student-athletes towards the ideals of CATapult," said head coach Janet Carl. "These young ladies work extremely hard and they understand the importance of succeeding in the classroom as well as on the golf course."
The National Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The NGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the NGCA represents nearly 500 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
