ST. LOUIS - The University of Cincinnati's Bambee Dela Paz (Caloocan City, Philippines/Miriam College) finished the second round of stroke play at the 109th USGA Women's Amateur Championship on Tuesday (Aug. 4). Her two-round total of 77-84=161 placed 132nd in the field of the top 155 amateur golfers in the nation.
The junior-to-be carded a 77 in the first round of stroke play and was in the hunt to qualify for the match play competition, but her second-round 84 dropped her from the Top 64, which advanced to a match play format beginning Wednesday (Aug. 5).
Danielle Kang of Thousand Oaks, Calif., shot a 70-68=138 to win stroke play medalist honors by one shot over Jessica Corda (Bradenton, Fla.) and Marina Alex (Wayne, N.J.), who each carded 139 totals.
The U.S. Women's Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs. The championship continues with six rounds of match play over the next five days, including a 36-hole match play final, which takes place on Sunday, Aug. 9.
