CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team reported to campus on Tuesday, August 4 and began preparations for the 2009 season. A talented group of returners combined with eight newcomers as the 2009 training camp kicked off on Wednesday morning.
"The players weren't nervous about preseason this year," said head coach Michelle Salmon. "They were excited to get going and start playing Cincinnati soccer."
UC returns seven starters from a squad that finished the 2008 season 10-7-3 overall, its best record since the 2002 season. The Bearcats advanced to the quarterfinal round of the BIG EAST Championship in their first appearance in the tournament since joining the BIG EAST in 2005.
"Our roster is significantly deeper this year," said Salmon. "One of the pluses to our team this year is the depth and the fact that we understand the expectations. The players have a really good grasp of the system we have in place and know our expectations as a coaching staff."
Cincinnati will begin the 2009 season with an exhibition game on Friday, Aug. 14 at Illinois at 4 p.m. UC will play five regular-season road games, beginning at Kentucky on Aug. 21, before its home opener against cross-town rival Xavier on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.
Single game tickets for UC women's soccer can be purchased the day of the game for $5 for adults and $3 for youth (12 and under).
