CINCINNATI -

The University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics has designated the Sept. 26, 2009 home football game against Fresno State University as ALS Awareness Day in Nippert Stadium.

The event will raise awareness for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease), while also promoting The ALS Associations of Central & Southern Ohio Chapters Walk to Defeat ALS, taking place on Oct. 4, 2009 at Winton Woods.

Fans can visit The ALS Association Information Table prior to the game and Bearcats student-athletes will be collecting donations at all gates. In addition, former UC professor David Naylor will be honored by the team as an honorary captain. Naylor, a professor for 33 years in the Division of Teacher Education, was diagnosed with ALS in October, 2007.

The Bearcats and Bulldogs will square off for the first time in a Noon kickoff at Nippert Stadium. The game is scheduled to be televised as part of the BIG EAST Network syndicated package.
