BERLIN - Former University of Cincinnati track and field athlete David Payne competed this morning in the preliminaries of the 110 hurdles at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics and advanced to the semifinals with a third-place showing in his heat. The top three qualifiers from each heat plus the next six fastest times advanced to the semifinals, and Payne's time of 13.54 pushed him through to the next round.

The semifinals of the 110 hurdles begin at 12:15 p.m. EDT on Thursday, Aug. 20, and the top two runners from each heat plus the next two fastest times will advance to the 110 hurdles final, which will be contested at 2:55 p.m. EDT on Thursday, Aug. 20.

Payne is slated to run in the second of three semifinal heats and will be running in Lane 7.

Payne, who earned a silver medal in the 110 hurdles at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, placed third in the 110 hurdles at the 2007 IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Osaka, Japan.
