COLUMBUS, Ohio - The University of Cincinnati dropped its exhibition opener against Ohio State, 5-1, at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on Sunday night (Aug. 23).

Ohio State scored four first-half goals and added a fifth early in the second stanza. Senior captain Judson McKinney (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) scored UC's lone goal on a penalty kick in the 50th minute.

Doug Verhoff scored twice in the first 17 minutes for the Buckeyes sandwiched around a Konrad Warzycha goal in the 12th minute gave OSU a quick 3-0 lead. Sebastian Rivas scored in the 36th minute to put the Buckeyes up by four.

Less than five minutes into the second half, UC was awarded a penalty kick after a foul in the box. McKinney's PK beat OSU keeper Ryan Dalton and put the Bearcats on the board.

Andrew Magill, who finished with a goal and two assists, tallied in the 54th minute to finish out the scoring.

Ohio State outshot the Bearcats, 13-1, and earned five corner kicks to UC's zero.

The Bearcats will return home to wrap up exhibition play against Cincinnati State on Tuesday, Aug. 25. Kickoff from Gettler Stadium is set for 7 p.m. and admission is free.
