CINCINNATI - A trip to Alaska and eight home games highlight the 12-game non-conference schedule for the University of Cincinnati women's basketball team, announced today by first-year head coach Jamelle Elliott.
"Eight home non-conference games will give our fans an opportunity to get to know our basketball team," said Elliott. "We will have a great trip to Alaska and will face some tough opponents that will prepare us for the rigors of BIG EAST play."
The Bearcats will open the season on Nov. 15 against Furman in Fifth Third Arena and then travel to Bloomington, Ind., for a date with Indiana on Nov. 18. UC will trek all the way to Anchorage, Alaska, for the 2009 Great Alaska Shootout on Nov. 24-25, where it will take on Western Carolina and either Coastal Carolina or host Alaska Anchorage.
A pair of home contests against Dartmouth (Nov. 29) and regional foe Kentucky (Dec. 4) precede the 2009 Skyline Chili Women's Crosstown Shootout, slated for Dec. 6 at Xavier's Cintas Center.
Home contests against Butler (Dec. 13), Jackson State (Dec. 16), Eastern Kentucky (Dec. 18), and Wright State (Dec. 29) round out the non-conference portion of the schedule.
UC's BIG EAST home opponents include Georgetown, Louisville, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, St. John's, USF, Villanova, and West Virginia. The Bearcats will hit the road to take on conference opponents Connecticut, DePaul, Louisville, Marquette, Providence, Rutgers, Seton Hall, and Syracuse.
