PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore forward Julie Morrissey (Abington, Mass./Tabor Academy) was named the BIG EAST Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced today (Sept. 14). Additionally, she was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week.

Morrissey earned the honors following a nine-point, four-goal effort in a 2-0-0 week for Cincinnati, scoring the game-winners in both games. In a 4-0 win over city rival Xavier on Sept. 10, she netted two goals, including one score in the 6th minute of the contest. She had two goals and an assist in a 3-2 win at Eastern Kentucky on Sept. 13, including the game-winner with three seconds left in regulation.

"These are well deserved honors," said head coach Michelle Salmon. "Julie played some tremendous soccer this weekend, coming up with some big time goals in critical moments. Her ability to play on and off her teammates, as well as her desire to play both sides of the ball, was the driving force for our two wins this weekend. As a team we are proud of the recognition Julie earned this week."

Morrissey is the first Cincinnati women's soccer player to earn BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors since UC joined the league in 2005.

UC is now 4-3-0 on the year and plays its first BIG EAST Conference match on Friday, Sept. 18, against Louisville at 7:30 p.m., following the men's match against Pittsburgh at 5 p.m. in Gettler Stadium.
