BOWLING GREEN, Ohio- The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team opened up its 2009-10 season at the Bowling Green Invitational and freshmen Elise Woulfe was the top performer for the Bearcats, winning the No. 5 singles flight. Woulfe defeated Karina Ahuja from Eastern Michigan in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Capping off an impressive debut by the true freshmen, Woulfe and partner Lindsey Lonergan, were victorious in consolation bracket of the No. 2 doubles flight.
The Bearcats entered a total of five individuals and three doubles teams in the 10-team event. Sophomore Ksenia Slynko and freshmen Caitlin O'Gara lost in the finals of the No. 4 doubles to Tanisha Welch and Anna Volkova of Youngstown State, 8-4.
In the No. 9 singles, junior Abby Mayo lost in the finals to Xavier's Kally Alkire 6-2, 6-2. Sophomore Jessica Wise lost in the consolation finals of the No. 4 singles to Nicole Janek of Cleveland State 7-5, 6-4.
