CHARDON, Ohio - The University of Cincinnati men's golf team finished second at the rain-shortened Telich/Sunlife Financial Invitational on Tuesday (Sept. 29) at the Sand Ridge Golf Club.
Freshman Zack Bates (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) fired a two-round total of 73-76=149 to finish in a second-place tie. Fellow frosh David Tepe (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) was four strokes behind at 79-74=153 and finished in a tie for ninth.
Junior Joe Kastelic (Newton, N.C./Fred T. Foard) and freshman Andrew Desmarais (Union, Ky./Ryle) finished in a tie for 13th, shooting 79-75=154 and 74-80=154, respectively.
The Bearcats posted a team total of 305-305=610, 12 shots behind team champ Malone, which carded rounds of 295-303=598.
Tournament host Cleveland State finished ninth with rounds of 322-307=629.
The third round was washed out due to heavy rain in the Cleveland area.
UC will next be in action on October 5-6 at the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
