SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Freshman David Tepe (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) fired a nine-over 219 to lead the University of Cincinnati men's golf team to a 10th-place finish at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
Joe Kastelic (Newton, N.C./Fred T. Foard) and Zack Bates (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) finished in a tie for 17th with totals of 75-75-70=220 and 72-74-74=220, respectively.
Tepe (74-73-72=219) finished 14th to become the third Bearcat freshman to lead the squad in three events this season. Andrew Desmarais (Union, Ky./Ryle) led the Bearcats at the season-opening Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational with a fourth-place finish. Bates was the top finisher for the Bearcats at the Telich/Sunlife Financial Invitational, placing second.
UC shot rounds of 302-296-296=894, one shot better than Colorado (304-302-289=895). Host Notre Dame won the team title with rounds of 290-288-292=870.
Notre Dame's Josh Sandman won the individual title by two strokes with a two-over 70-68-74=212.
The Bearcats host the UC Fall Invitational on Oct. 12-13 at Traditions Golf Club in Hebron, Ky.
