CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team lost, 1-0, in a BIG EAST Conference match to Marquette University on Friday night at Gettler Stadium.
"Marquette is a good team," said head coach Michelle Salmon. "They were able to dictate play in the first half and we were chasing the game. I thought in the second half we did a better job of getting hold of the ball but at the end of the day, we have to start finding the back of the net."
Cincinnati (7-8-1, 4-2-2 BIG EAST) spent most of the match in their defensive third, giving up 15 shots while managing two for the match. Marquette (10-4-2, 4-2-2 BIG EAST) held a 5-2 advantage on corner kicks and got the game-winner in the 36th minute when Rachaeal Sloan crossed a perfect pass from the right side to Ashley Bares who headed the goal into the back right corner for her first goal of the season.
"Today we weren't taking chances and for us to get better we have to come out against South Florida and be a little more dangerous and take risks," noted Salmon. "We didn't really have a sense of urgency until about the last 20 minutes of the game and then we started to make it interesting. But we have to do a better job on the attacking end and defensively we have to make sure we don't take plays off."
Cincinnati hosts USF on Sunday in a 1 p.m. match at Gettler Stadium.
