TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - In its final tune-up for the 2009 BIG EAST Cross Country Championships, the University of Cincinnati men's and women's cross country teams finished 32nd and 30th, respectively, in the white races at the Pre-Nationals meet hosted by Indiana State University.
With more than sixty teams competing at the event, the men's and women's races were split into two races apiece. Stanford won the men's white race, while Washington took home the title in the women's white race.
The men's team was led by sophomore Eric Finan, who posted a time of 25:21.9 in the 8K race to finish 123rd. Juniors David Barry and Ricky Lupp remained close behind Finan and both clocked times under 26 minutes to give UC 144th- and an 168th-place finishes, respectively. Freshman Corey Stoll ran well and earned his highest team finish of the season coming in fourth on the Bearcats squad with a time of 26:11.6. Stoll had a strong finish in the final 3K of the race passing 20 runners during that span to finish 190th. Fellow freshman Chase Beckmann concluded the Bearcats scoring with a time of 26:28.9.
The women's squad was led by senior Jocelyn McCauley, who placed 71st with a time of 21:49.5. The other Top 100 finisher for UC was junior Lilian Jelimo and her time of 22:05.7 was good enough for 98th place. Juniors Tamara Masters and Michele McKenney finished 115th and 191st, respectively for the Bearcats, before freshman Cortney Staruch closed out the scoring with a time of 24:27.2.
UC next competes at the BIG EAST Championships Oct. 31 in Kenosha, Wis.
