Oct. 22, 2009
CINCINNATI - In anticipation of the heavy and steady rain forecast for Cincinnati on Friday, October 23, the 2009 Baseball Alumni Home Run Derby has been cancelled. In place of the Home Run Derby, the baseball program will host a pre-game tailgate on Saturday, October 24, in the concourse of Marge Schott Stadium from 11:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Kickoff for the Cincinnati/Louisville football game is set for 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The decision to cancel this event was made with consideration to give the baseball alumni as much notice as possible to adjust their plans while preserving an opportunity to still hold a baseball alumni event. It was decided that the anticipated rain for Friday would impact both the quality of and attendance at the Home Run Derby. There is no make-up opportunity for the 2009 Alumni Home Run Derby as the logistics associated with the home football game on Saturday do not allow for the event to take place.
The Baseball Alumni Tailgate is open to all former players and their friends and family and all Diamond Club members and their friends and family. Parking is available per the normal game day parking policy.
UC head baseball coach Brian Cleary will offer brief remarks to all Diamond Club members and baseball alumni at 2:30 p.m. at the tailgate.
