CINCINNATI - Erin MacDonald scored the game-winning goal to lead the University of Cincinnati (8-10-1, 3-7-1 BIG EAST) to a 4-0 victory over Seton Hall (5-12-1, 1-9-1 BIG EAST) in the final match of the season for both teams on Sunday at Gettler Stadium.
MacDonald took a feed from Julie Morrissey and lobbed the ball over Seton Hall's goalkeeper just 28 minutes into the match. The Bearcats held the 1-0 advantage going into halftime.
In the second half, Kendall Loggins headed the ball into the back of the net after Kay Young headed a corner kick from Melissa Bigg in the 58th minute. Evi Ranson found the back of the net after a feed from Christine Brewer in the 85th minute, putting the Bearcats up, 3-0. An own goal by Seton Hall gave UC its most goals in a game since defeating Xavier, 4-0, on Sept. 10.
Andrea Kaminski finished her career at UC with her 16th career shutout and her four saves against Seton Hall gives her 401 career saves - the most in UC history. The Bearcats outshot Seton Hall 13-9 and held a 5-1 advantage on corner kicks.
"This is a great way to end the season, winning 4-0 and having all of our seniors contribute," said head coach Michelle Salmon. This will catapult us into next season. When I look at the future of this program and where we are going and how much we have matured over the course of the season I'm extremely impressed with the development. We came out today and played inspired soccer for our senior class."
