SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Sam Klosterman (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) scored his first career goal, but the University of Cincinnati men's soccer team could not hold a 1-0 halftime lead and closed its 2009 season with a 3-1 loss to Syracuse on Halloween night (Oct. 31) in the SU Soccer Stadium.

Klosterman tallied off of a corner kick - a trouble spot for the Bearcats all season - for his first collegiate goal in the 44th minute. Alex Fernandes (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) took the corner and was awarded the assist, his first career helper.

UC (8-10-0, 3-8-0 BIG EAST) to the 1-0 lead into the half despite Syracuse's 6-4 advantage in shots and 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

Syracuse (3-14-0, 2-8-0) rallied in the second half with a 53rd minute goal from Hansen Woodruff. Justin Arena scored the game-winner for the Orange in the 73rd minute and Woodruff's second goal of the match sealed it just a minute later.

The Bearcats dropped their fifth straight match and have lost seven of the last eight.

Redshirt freshman Joey Barnard (McKinney, Texas/McKinney) made nine saves in goal in his first career start and appearance.

The Bearcats will miss the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time since joining the league during the 2005 season.
