CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati volleyball team inked two players to National Letters of Intent in Juliana Behrens and Brittany Haber, head coach Reed Sunahara announced today. Behrens is a 6-1 outside hitter from Honolulu, Hawai'i, and Haber is a 6-2 middle blocker from St. Petersburg, Fla.
" Juliana and Brittany will be tremendous assets to our program. They are both athletic and versatile players that will bring depth to our lineup and we are excited to add their talent to the group we have returning."
Behrens makes the 4,400 mile trek to Cincinnati from Honolulu, becoming the first player from Hawai'i to play for Sunahara. She was a four-year player at Punahou School under head coach Jim Iams, where she helped her team to four consecutive Top-3 finishes in the state tournament. As a senior, Behrens led Punahou School to a league title while earning Honolulu Star-Bulletin Athlete of the Week selection twice. Behrens has also been named to the Under Armour Girls High School All-American volleyball watch list and nominated for the Gatorade Player of the Year Award for the State of Hawai'i. As a junior, Behrens was a first-team Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I All-Star selection.
" Juliana comes from a tradition-rich high school program and we are excited to bring in a player of her caliber all the way from Hawai'i. Her team is consistently a state championship contender and she knows what it takes to win. "
Haber makes her way to Clifton from Clay High School in St. Petersburg, Fla., where she was a two-time all-county player and an Ultimate High School Sports Top 20 Player in North Florida. As a senior, Haber put down 285 kills, 86 blocks, 51 aces, and had 61 digs en route to being named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) High School All-American Watch List.
" Brittany is a player with a lot of potential and we're excited to put her in an environment where she can reach new heights. She will mature quickly and we're excited for her to make an impact on our program. "
Cincinnati concludes its regular-season this weekend when it welcomes Connecticut and St. John's to Fifth Third Arena. The Bearcats first play the Huskies on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 2 p.m., before meeting the Red Storm on Sunday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m.
