CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati head football coach Brian Kelly was named one of three finalists for the 2009 George Munger Award for coach of the year, Maxwell Football Club President Ron Jaworski announced Monday.

Kelly is joined on the finalist list by Temple coach Al Golden and TCU head coach Gary Patterson.

Kelly is in his third season at Cincinnati with a record of 32-6. He led UC to the 2008 BIG EAST Conference Championship and is the two-time defending BIG EAST Coach of the Year.

He has led the Bearcats to an 10-0 (6-0 BIG EAST Conference) start in 2009, the best opening to a season in school history. UC is ranked No. 5 in the Associated Press poll, USA Today Coaches poll, and Bowl Championship Series Standings entering the week.

Finalist voting for the George Munger Award will commence on Tuesday November 23, 2009 and close at noon eastern time on Sunday December 6, 2009. Eligible voters include Maxwell Football Club members, NCAA Head Football Coaches, Sports Information Directors and selected national media.

The announcement of the winner of the Maxwell Football Club's George Munger Award will be made via press release on December 15, 2009.

The award is named for former University of Pennsylvania coach George Munger. His devotion to ethics in athletics, and his commitment to education is the standard for which all college coaches should strive. Voters for the Maxwell College Awards are NCAA Head College Football Coaches, members of the Maxwell Football Club & sportswriters and sportscasters from across the country.
