PROVIDENCE, R.I. - University of Cincinnati freshman forward Lance Stephenson (Brooklyn, N.Y./Abraham Lincoln) was named the BIG EAST Conference's Rookie of the Week for Nov. 16-22 for averaging 11.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and two assists in the Bearcats first two games of the season, the league office announced today. Stephenson is the first Bearcats Rookie to earn the distinction since Yancy Gates earned the honor last year.
Stephenson made his collegiate debut on Nov. 16 vs. Prairie View A&M scoring seven points, pulling down four rebounds and handing out a pair of assists as Cincinnati rallied for a 69-62 victory vs. the Panthers.
Two nights later as UC cruised to a 92-68 victory over Toledo, Stephenson notched his first career double-digit scoring performance with 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting. He also added three rebounds and two assists.
The Bearcats (2-0, 0-0 BIG EAST) return to the floor today at 5:30 p.m. EST as they take on Vanderbilt University (2-0, 0-0 SEC) in the opening round of the EA Sports Maui Invitational. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2 and can be heard on 700 WLW.
