CINCINNATI - The UC Bearcat has been named one of the 12 members of the 2009 Capital One All-America Mascot Team and will be competing for the coveted title of "Capital One National Mascot of the Year."
Bearcat is matched up against Testudo, the University of Maryland's mascot in the semifinals and if victorious would battle either Bill the Goat (Navy) or Bucky the Badger (Wisconsin) for the National Championship.
Fans can vote now for Bearcat online for the National Mascot of the Year at www.capitalonebowl.com. You may vote one time per day, per computer, through 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 30.
UC Athletics is asking each person reading this information to vote every day leading up to the end of the competition. A $15,000 donation to the University of Cincinnati Mascot Program is the grand prize.
The winner of Mascot of the Year will be crowned on Jan. 1, 2010 at the Capital One Bowl.
Bearcat was named a Capital One All-America Mascot based on his highlight video made earlier this year. He was selected for his interaction with fans, originality, creativity, and professionalism.
UC fans are encouraged to bookmark www.capitalonebowl.com and the Bearcat's Twitter and Facebook pages so they can vote early and vote often. Fans can vote multiple times a day during the contest, and Capital One does not collect names, addresses, or email addresses from anyone who casts a vote.
