TAMPA, Fla. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association released its 2009 AVCA Division I Volleyball All-American list and University of Cincinnati junior Stephanie Niemer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) earned AVCA Honorable Mention All-America honors. It is the first all-America honor for Niemer and the third year in a row that UC has placed a player on the AVCA All-America list.
Niemer led the Bearcats to a 25-11 overall record and a 12-2 BIG EAST mark en route to earning first-team all-conference and BIG EAST All-Tournament honors. The junior outside hitter became the 11th player in school history to eclipse 500 kills in a season posting 541 on the campaign. Niemer concluded the season ranking third in the BIG EAST in kills per set (4.19), aces per set (0.41), and points per set (4.88).
Through her junior season, Niemer ranks fourth on UC's career kills per set chart (3.69), fifth in school history in aces (149), eighth in total attempts (3,480), and ninth in kills (1,341).
Niemer is the fourth player in program history to earn all-America honors joining Jessie Nevitt, Laura Lauder, and Julie DuPont, who was a third-team AVCA All-America selection in 2003.
