KANSAS CITY, Kan. - University of Cincinnati men's soccer standout Branden Stelmak (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar all-East Region team, the organization announced.
Stelmak, a junior forward, holds a 3.39 grade point average in operations management. He led the Bearcats with four goals and 12 points in 2009 and has eight career goals and five career assists.
Stelmak earned CollegeSoccerNews.com National Team of the Week and BIG EAST Honor Roll mentions on Sept. 7 after leading UC to a 3-0-0 week, highlighted by a win at No. 18 Dayton on Sept. 1. He scored three goals in three matches, including a pair of tallies at UD. The junior forward scored game-winners at Dayton and against Canisius and added an assist in a 2-0 win against Wright State.
The Bearcats earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award, announced in late November after holding a 3.11 team grade point average. Cincinnati was one of 97 schools across all divisions to have both men's and women's programs recognized for academic excellence.
Based in Kansas City, Kan., the NSCAA is the largest coaches' organization in the United States. Since its founding in 1941, it has grown to include more than 30,000 members who coach both genders at all levels of the sport. In addition to a national rankings program for colleges and high schools, NSCAA offers an extensive recognition program that presents nearly 10,000 individual awards every year. It fulfills its mission of coaching education through a nationwide program of clinics and week-long courses, teaching more than 4,000 soccer coaches each year.
