CINCINNATI - Kahla Roudebush (Noblesville, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) matched a season high with 25 points, but the University of Cincinnati women's basketball team dropped a 60-56 decision to No. 19/18 Georgetown on Tuesday (Jan. 19) night in Fifth Third Arena.
Roudebush was 7-of-13 from the field and hit a season-high five threes. In her last three games against Georgetown, she has scored 25, 25, and 21 points.
Shareese Ulis (Toledo, Ohio/Trinity Valley C.C.) scored 10 points and added three assists and three rebounds for the Bearcats (8-9, 1-4 BIG EAST). Michelle Jones (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) chipped in nine points and five boards.
Monica McNutt scored a career-high 26 points, including knocking down 8-of-12 from three-point range to pace the Hoyas (16-2, 5-0), who extended their school-record winning streak to 15 games.
"Our short bench definitely hurt us, especially against team like Georgetown who is constantly attacking for 40 minutes," said head coach Jamelle Elliott. "To my players' credit, they are giving me all they have. Georgetown is a really good team and it was a hard-fought game. It's a shame that someone had to lose."
Roudebush was hot early, scoring eight points in the first 3:16 of the game. Coming off a tough shooting night at Rutgers on Saturday, the senior guard poured in 18 first-half points on 6-of-10 shooting. McNutt had 12 points in the first 20 minutes on 4-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc.
The Bearcats led 33-31 at intermission.
UC pushed its lead to 40-33, the largest of the game, at the 16:39 mark of the second half on a three by Ulis. McNutt scored 11 straight Georgetown points during an 11-5 run to cut the lead to 45-44 with 8:22 to play.
A pair of Sugar Rodgers free throws gave Georgetown its first lead since the five minute mark of the first half at 46-45, but a Roudebush three on the next UC possession pushed the Bearcats back in front, 48-46.
The teams traded baskets for the next five minutes until McNutt's three from the corner with 2:06 left gave the Hoyas a four-point advantage at 58-54.
Roudebush knocked down two free throws to cut the lead to two with 21 seconds left, but Rodgers calmly sank a pair on the other end with 18 seconds left to put the game out of reach.
The Bearcats held Rodgers, the BIG EAST's leading scorer, to 15 points, four below her season average.
Cincinnati will travel to New Jersey for the second weekend in a row to take on Seton Hall on Saturday, Jan. 23, at 2 p.m.
