Women's Tennis Drops Season Opener vs. Bowling Green, 5-2

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team opened up the 2009-10 season and its second season under head coach Angela Wilson with a 5-2 loss vs. Bowling Green State University at the Western Tennis and Fitness Club in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Bowling Green took the first point of the match in doubles action winning all three contests. The duo of sophomore Safiyya Ismail and junior Lindsey Lonergan, who transferred from Michigan State, lost their first match together in the No. 1 double spot, 8-5.

In singles action, the Bearcats picked up two points, winning the No. 3 and No. 5 spots. Freshman Caitlin O'Gara picked up her first win at UC in her collegiate debut in the No. 3 flight with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Bowling Green's Samatha Kintzel. Sophomore Ksenia Slynko, playing No. 5 singles, picked up her 15th career win (6-4, 6-3).

UC returns to action next Friday, Jan. 29 as the team takes on local rival Miami University. The location and time of the match are to be announced. Check back to GoBEARCATS.com for updates.
