CHICAGO - Three players scored in double figures, but the University of Cincinnati women's basketball team dropped a 71-63 decision at DePaul on Wednesday (Jan. 27) night in McGrath Arena.
Kahla Roudebush (Noblesville, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) scored 16 points, including 10-of-10 from the free throw line to lead the Bearcats (9-10, 2-5 BIG EAST). Shareese Ulis (Toledo, Ohio/Trinity Valley C.C.) scored 15 and Carla Jacobs (Cleveland, Ohio/Regina) added 13.
The Bearcats were outrebounded, 37-33, including 19-9 on the offensive end. DePaul (14-7, 3-4) scored 20 second-chance points to UC's eight.
All five starters scored in double figures for the Blue Demons, led by Sam Quigley's 16. Katherine Harry scored 15 points and tied a career high with 18 rebounds, including 10 offensive boards.
The Bearcats jumped to an 8-2 lead at the 15:58 mark of the first half, but DePaul put together a 14-0 run to take a 16-8 lead with 9:49 to go. A Ulis jumper at 9:32 stopped the run, but a three from Maureen Mulchrone gave DePaul its biggest lead of the half at 19-10.
Five straight points for UC cut the lead to 19-15 with 5:30 to play. The teams traded baskets throughout the rest of the half and a Quigley step-back jumper gave DePaul a 35-29 lead going into the break.
The Bearcats opened the second half on a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to 37-36, but a Blue Demon 10-0 run pushed it to 47-36 with 16:00 to play.
The Bearcats kept the lead around 10 for most of the half, but couldn't overcome DePaul's hot shooting and pressure defense.
The Blue Demons finished the game at 43 percent from the floor. UC shot 46 percent but was hurt by 18 turnovers and 19 offensive rebounds allowed.
The Bearcats shot 16-of-20 from the free throw line, including a 14-of-14 start. The single-game school record is 14-of-14.
The Bearcats return to Fifth Third Arena to take on USF on Saturday, Jan. 30, at noon.
