CINCINNATI- The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team battles long-time conference foe Louisville, on Friday, March 12, at 2 p.m. The match will be played at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center in Louisville. The following evening the Bearcats host Villanova, on Saturday, March 13, at 5 p.m. at the Western Tennis and Fitness Club in Cincinnati.
Cincinnati (5-8, 1-1 BIG EAST) showed its youth and inexperience against a nationally-ranked Akron team last Saturday (Mar. 6), as it was defeated 7-0. The match against the No. 67 Zips marks the third match this season the Bearcats have been defeated by a ranked opponent on the road. UC is now 3-6 on the road this season.
Against Akron, sophomore Ksenia Slynko had a five-match winning streak come to an end and suffered her first loss since moving to the No. 1 singles flight. She was defeated by Zara Harutyunyan, who is ranked among the Top 100 players nationally, 6-0, 6-1. Slynko is now 5-1 in the No. 1 singles flight and 9-4 overall on the season.
Freshman Caitlin O'Gara had a four match winning streak snapped against Akron, as she fell in two sets 6-0, 6-0. She is now 7-6 on the season.
UC did not play Louisville or Villanova a season ago.
