EUGENE, ORE. - Maddie Fink and Natalie Starvaggi each recorded two goals but the University of Cincinnati lacrosse team lost to Oregon, 14-8, at Pape Field on Saturday afternoon. Cincinnati dropped to 2-2 on the year while Oregon improved to 4-3 overall.
The Bearcats started slow, giving up three Oregon goals before Starvaggi took a pass from Katie Kiriazoglou for one of UC's two first half goals. Laura Simanski scored an unassisted goal just over seven minutes later but the Bearcats were unable to find the back of the net for the final 15:29 of the first half.
Behind 8-2 to start the second half, Fink scored her first goal of the game, from Kiriazoglou, just 1:42 into the period. Fink scored again off a pass from Lynsey Burton, before Paige Stratton scored an unassisted goal for the Bearcats. Starvaggi recorded her second goal of the game, from Katie Liberatore, with 14:23 left in the game. UC gave up three straight Duck goals and fell behind, 13-6, before Burton scored on a free position attempt. Rachel Mercier finished up the scoring with a goal on a free position attempt with 1:10 left in the game, but the Bearcats lost, 14-8.
Cincinnati will play next at Stanford on Monday, March 22, in a 1 p.m. (PST) game.
