LAS VEGAS- Returning to action after nearly two weeks off, the University of Cincinnati tennis team defeated Southern Utah, 7-0, in the opening match of the Las Vegas Challenge at the Bally's Resort. The win marks consecutive victories for the Bearcats and improves their record to 7-9 on the season.

UC took control of the match early, sweeping all three doubles matches to claim the first point of the match. Junior Lindsey Lonergan and sophomore Safiyya Ismail won, 8-3, in the No. 1 doubles slot, marking the duo's second straight victory.

Sophomore Ksenia Slynko and freshman Elise Woulfe captured the No. 2 doubles match, 8-0, while freshman Caitlin O'Gara and junior Abby Mayo completed the sweep, winning 8-1 in the No. 3 doubles flight.

In singles competition, Slynko won in two sets, 7-6 (4-0), 6-3, her third straight win in singles action and eighth in the No. 1 singles flight. Since moving to the No. 1 spot, Slynko is 8-1.

Woulfe and O'Gara netted victories in the No. 4 and No. 5 flights, respectively, with 6-1, 6-2, and 6-0, 6-1 triumphs.

Ismail and Lonergan, playing in the No. 2 and No. 3 flights, won 6-0, 6-3, and 6-4, 7-6 (3-0), respectively.

Mayo, playing in the No. 6 flight, won her third match of the season, 6-4, 6-1.

The Bearcats return to the action later today as they battle Idaho State, in the second game of the Challenge. The match is expected to begin at 11 a.m. and will be played at Bally's Resort.
