MIAMI LAKES, Fla. - The University of Cincinnati women's golf team used a final-round 299 - a season-low - to finish fifth at the Canes and Cardinals Classic on Tuesday at the Don Shula Golf Resort.
Freshman Alex Carl (Union, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) fired a season-low 227 with rounds of 74, 81, and a career-best even-par 72. She finished in a tie for sixth, her best finish as a collegian.
Bambee Dela Paz (Caloocan City, Philippines/Miriam College) was just a shot behind, finishing in a tie for ninth with rounds of 79-77-72=228.
Sophomore Kristin Price (Dandridge, Tenn./Jefferson County) posted career-bests, finishing in a tie for 12th with rounds of 78-78-75=231. The 12th-place finish is her best as a collegian, as is her third-round 75 and three-round total of 231.
The Bearcats (312-318-299=929) were two shots back of fourth-place Florida Gulf Coast, which posted rounds of 313-305-309=927. Maryland won the team title with a three-round total of 302-307-299=908.
Kristen Hill of Akron was the individual champion, posting rounds of 73-70-72=215, good for one under par and a two-stroke victory over Maryland's Christine Shimel (74-73-70=217).
The Bearcats will now prep for the 2010 BIG EAST Championships, which will get underway on April 18-20 at Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Fla.
