Hoyas Defeat Bearcats In BIG EAST Action

CINCINNATI - Laura Simanski scored three goals for the second straight game but the University of Cincinnati (4-6, 03 BIG EAST) lacrosse team was unable to stop No. 14 Georgetown (6-5, 4-0 BIG EAST) on Friday afternoon, losing 21-8 at Nippert Stadium.

Ali Mattingly scored UC's first goal of the game on an assist from Katie Liberatore with 25:19 on the clock. Georgetown added three more scores to its four goals before Simanski put the Bearcats' second goal on the board. Simanski, MacKenzie Parsons, and Rachel Mercier scored UC's final three goals of the first half in the last seven minutes, but the Hoyas took a 14-5 lead into the locker room.

Georgetown scored the first four goals of the second half when Liberatore took a pass from Simanski with 17:01 remaining. Simanski and Mercier scored UC's final two goals of the game but the Hoyas tacked on three more goals making the final score 21-8.

Katherine Russo had eight saves in goal for the Bearcats, who won the draw control battle, 17-14. Georgetown had 33 fouls to Cincinnati's 19 and took 33 shots compared to UC's 18.

Cincinnati will play Ohio State on Wednesday, April 14 at 5 p.m. in non-conference action at Nippert Stadium.
