SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The University of Cincinnati baseball team found itself in a 4-0 hole after three innings and could not recover as the Bearcats dropped the second game of a three-game series to Seton Hall University, 4-1, Saturday afternoon at Owen T. Carroll Field.

The Bearcats (15-13; 3-5 BIG EAST) committed two costly errors early, with one of the errors resulting in two unearned runs, which proved to be the difference in the contest.

Seton Hall (12-15; 2-6 BIG EAST) used some two-out hitting in the second inning to take command early. A two-out double preceded a RBI-single that placed the Pirates on top, 1-0. A stolen base moved another runner into scoring position and a Cincinnati fielding error allowed the runner on second base to score, upping the margin to 2-0. SHU used another stolen base followed by its second double of the inning to plate another run and move its lead to 3-0.

The Pirates tacked on another run in the third to push their lead to 4-0, but Cincinnati got on the board in the sixth.

Junior Mikel Huston singled with one out in the inning and two batters later moved to second base on a single through the right side by sophomore Kendal Coleman. Senior Jimmy Jacquot delivered a two-out RBI-single through the left side to score Huston and make the score 4-1. After the Jacquot single, senior Kevin Johnson was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but a strikeout ended the scoring threat.

Sophomore Sam Slavik came into the ball game in the sixth inning and shut down the Pirates in the final three innings with five strikeouts , while not relinquishing a hit, but the Bearcats were unable to mount a comeback offensively as Seton Hall defeated Cincinnati, 4-1.

Coleman led UC with two hits on the day, while Jacquot drove in the lone run.

The Pirates and Bearcats conclude their three-game conference series on Sunday, April 11, at Noon. Cincinnati will send junior Nick Johnson to the hill as the Bearcats look to claim the rubber match.
