THE MATCH-UPS
The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team travels to Notre Dame to take on the No. 12 Fighting Irish on Saturday, April 17 in a 3 p.m. EST BIG EAST game. The Bearcats return home for a non-conference game against upstart Jacksonville University on Sunday, April 18, in a 2 p.m. game at Nippert Stadium.
GIRLS LAX DAY
All female lacrosse teams in the Cincinnati area, of any age, are invited to UC's game against Jacksonville on Sunday, April 18 at 2 p.m. Admission is free for all UC home lacrosse games. After the game UC players will be available for autographs. UC lacrosse players will come to a game to cheer on the team which brings the most players on their team to the game.
LAST TIME OUT
No. 19 Ohio State University scored 14 first half goals en route to a 20-5 victory over UC in non-conference action on April 14 at Nippert Stadium. The Buckeyes scored 10 goals in the first nine minutes of the game before Ali Mattingly took an assist from Laura Simanski for UC's only goal in the first half. OSU scored eight goals before the Bearcats posted back-to-back goals, one from Rachel Mercier and one by Simanski from Natalie Starvaggi. Ohio State hit the back of the net two more times until UC scored the final two goals of the game, a free position attempt by MacKenzie Parsons and an unassisted goal from Starvaggi. Katherine Russo and Haley Marvine each spent time in goal for the Bearcats combining for six saves.
VS. OPPONENTS
Cincinnati played Notre Dame last season, in the Bearcats' first season as a lacrosse member of the BIG EAST Conference. Notre Dame was ranked No. 9 in the country and went home with a 16-5 victory over UC. The Fighting Irish are ranked No. 12 nationally and are riding a three-game win streak. Jacksonville is a newcomer to the sport and is playing UC for the first time. The Dolphins are 5-8 overall but are looking to snap a two-game losing skid when they play Louisville on Saturday, April 17.
STREAKIN'
Sophomore Laura Simanski has the team's longest point-streak, 14. Simanski recorded a point in every game her freshman year until the Bearcats played Loyola. She started her streak with two goals against Louisville last season and has a point in every 2010 game. Freshmen Katie Kiriazoglou and Katie Liberatore each had a point a game this season until UC's loss at No. 9 Stanford.
CAS SCHOLAR ATHLETE
Senior Patty Kelly was named the College of Applied Science Scholar Athlete of the Month for the month of March. Kelly, a tri-captain, has a 3.60 grade point average in electronic media.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Katherine Russo was named the BIG EAST Conference Defensive Player of the Week after her outstanding performances in the first two games of the season for the Bearcats. Russo's honor is the second time that a Cincinnati player has earned a weekly conference honor after the first week of play in a season. Last season, Laura Simanski was named the BIG EAST's Offensive Player of the Week after the opening week of play for the Bearcats.
BIG EAST HONOR ROLL
Laura Simanski totaled 12 points, including 11 goals in a 2-1 road trip; had five points, including four goals in a 12-7 win at St. Mary's (Calif.) and earned BIG EAST Honor Roll plaudit. Katie Kiriazoglou recorded a school-record eight points and a school-record five assists in UC's victory over Presbyterian and earned BIG EAST Honor Roll status as a result. Katie Liberatore was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll after the first week of play this season. She finished the week with seven points, including five goals against Duquesne.
MISSING MARSHALL
The Bearcats lost one starter from the 2009 season, senior Lindsey Marshall. Marshall finished her career as the school leader in career goals (64), career caused turnovers (39), career ground balls (59) and career points (69).
KELLY KELLY
Senior Patty Kelly is one of the 2010 team captains and her sister, junior Lauren Kelly, became the school leader in career ground balls in UC's win over Presbyterian. She now has 64 career ground balls, passing Lindsey Marshall's previous record of 59 ground balls but she is currently ranked second in UC history after Paige Stratton surpassed her career total of 64. Stratton has 65 career ground balls. Lauren Kelly needs to cause seven turnovers to become the school leader in career caused turnovers.
SMOOTH SIMANSKI
Sophomore attack Laura Simanski became the school's leader in career goals against Saint Mary's. She has 27 goals in 2010 and 74 career goals, passing Lindsey Marshall's previous record of 64 career goals. She leads the team with 31 points on the year.
DROPPIN' DIMES
Freshman attack Katie Kiriazoglou has twice handed out five assists in a game -- a UC record -- and has a team-high 17 assists through nine games. She is the school leader in career assists, passing the previous school record of 11, against Fresno State.
TURNING THE PAIGE
Junior Paige Stratton has 25 ground balls this season, surpassing teammate Lauren Kelly as the career leader at UC with 65. Stratton plays defense and has scored one goal, starting every game in 2010.
STAR SHINING
Junior Natalie Starvaggi recorded three unassisted goals against Louisville and has 11 goals and eight assists on the year. The tri-captain has a team-high 27 ground balls this season.
MAC ATTACK
Sophomore MacKenzie Parsons has scored eight times this season and has picked up 18 ground balls and caused a team-high 10 turnovers.
ALI
Sophomore attack Ali Mattingly, the tallest player on UC's squad, has a team-high 21 draw controls. She has scored six goals on nine shots and has handed out three assists.
