CINCINNATI – Upon completion of its April 24 meet at the RedHawk Invitational in Oxford, Ohio, the University of Cincinnati men’s and women’s track & field teams will quickly turn its focus to the 2010 BIG EAST Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held at Gettler Stadium, April 30 – May 2.
This will be the second time, since joining the BIG EAST during the 2005-06 school year, which a conference championship event has been held at a UC facility, with Fifth Third Arena serving as host of the 2007 BIG EAST Volleyball Championship.
Cincinnati’s men’s squad has placed fourth at the last two BIG EAST Outdoor Championships and the women’s squad finished sixth a season ago. Both teams look to put on a show for the home crowd and peak on its home track to capture their best finishes since joining the league.
The men’s team currently has 32 athletes qualified for the BIG EAST meet in 17 events, while the women’s team has 25 qualifiers in 17 events.
Entering the week, six male athletes from BIG EAST institutions rank in the Top 10 nationally in five events, while nine female athletes rank in the Top 10 nationally in seven events.
Admission to the BIG EAST Championship is free on Friday, April 30 for the multi-events. On Saturday, May 1, and Sunday, May 2, admission each day will be $4 for adults and $2 for children (18 and under) and seniors. Students that currently attend one of the 16 BIG EAST Conference institutions will be admitted free with a valid Student ID.
