HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team stayed unbeaten in spring action with a 2-0 win against Butler on Friday (April 23) at the John Toebben College Showcase.
The Bearcats and Bulldogs played the nightcap of a tripleheader in the official opening of the newly-constructed NKU Soccer Complex.
Matt Bahner had a hand in both UC goals, scoring the first in the 42nd minute off an assist from Peter Jannelli. In the 59th minute, Bahner found Christian Myton for his second of the spring and a 2-0 lead for the Bearcats.
"This was our best overall performance of the spring," said head coach Hylton Dayes. "We started off the game well and got the critical first goal just before the half."
Matt Williams and Joey Barnard split time in goal, combining for the shutout. UC has allowed just three goals in five spring games with three shutouts.
"I thought we created some quality chances off our flank play which led to both goals," Dayes said. "We did a good job defensively on Butler's key attacking players throughout the match and did a good job defending restarts late in the match."
UC will close out the spring season on April 27 when it welcomes the USL Premier Development League's Dayton Dutch Lions to Gettler Stadium.
