CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics will honor National Champion swimmer Josh Schneider on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at the Kingsgate Marriott on the UC campus.

A cocktail hour will take place from 6-7 p.m. with dinner and the event program scheduled for 7 p.m. Business attire is required.

"I am excited about the opportunity to have the spotlight shine on Josh and his magnificent accomplishment as a National Champion" Director of Athletics Mike Thomas said. "Josh has been an outstanding representative for UC Athletics and is certainly deserving of a special night where we can celebrate his accomplishments in the pool and in the classroom."

All funds raised will benefit the UC men's swimming and diving program.

Head Coach Monty Hopkins, himself a former UC Swimmer and Nippert Award winning student-athlete, says this is a great rallying point for the Bearcats swimming program.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for the Cincinnati swimming community to come together and honor the accomplishments of a hometown boy turned national champion" Hopkins said. "Josh's story of developing his talent and putting in countless hours in the pool, weight room, and classroom is a shining example of what a collegiate student-athlete experience should be about. I look forward to sharing this night with him, his family, and many of our current and former Bearcats swimmers."

Schneider, the 2010 NCAA Champion in the 50 freestyle, staged a dramatic come-from-behind finish to win the Bearcats first swimming national title since Charles Keating in 1946.

Schneider, who will be training for the 2012 Olympics in London, leaves UC as a five-time all-America selection, seven-time BIG EAST Conference Champion, two-time BIG EAST Swimmer of the Year, and the holder of five school records (50 free, 100 free, 200 free, 50 fly, and 100 fly).

In his time at UC, Schneider set 22 school-record times and was undefeated in the 50 freestyle during the 2009-10season.

Parking is available in the Kingsgate Marriott garage. The Marriott is located at 151 Goodman St., Cincinnati, OH 45219.

Event tickets can be purchased for $50 a person. Please print the attached response card and return it to the UCATS office by Wednesday, May 12. Phone reservations will not be accepted.
