PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The University of Cincinnati (5-12, 0-8 BIG EAST) lacrosse team ended its 2010 season with a 21-8 loss at No. 19 Rutgers (11-5, 4-4 BIG EAST) on Sunday afternoon in BIG EAST Conference action. Laura Simanski scored three goals for the Bearcats while Katie Kiriazoglou recorded two goals and two assists.
Rutgers scored the first two goals of the game until Simanski found the back of the net off an assist from Kiriazoglou. Natalie Starvaggi and LB Zinkand scored next for UC, but Rutgers countered each goal, making the score 4-3. The Scarlet Knights rattled off three straight goals to go up, 7-3, when Kiriazoglou scored off an assist from Starvaggi. Rutgers scored two more goals but Marissa Pierson scored with 42 seconds left, off an assist from Kiriazoglou, making the halftime score, 9-5 in favor of the Scarlet Knights.
RU scored first in the second half with Kiriazoglou posting a goal from Simanski first for UC in the second half. Rutgers then scored two goals before Simanski could record a goal, from Ali Mattingly. The Scarlet Knights put the game out of reach for the Bearcats by scoring five straight goals, making the score 17-7. Simanski recorded the final goal of the game for UC with 10:53 to go in the half and Rutgers tallied four more goals before the final horn blew.
Katherine Russo and Haley Marvine spent time in goal for Cincinnati. Russo finished with 16 saves.
