CINCINNATI - On Friday, May 7, 2010, The University of Cincinnati teamed up with RallyCats and CPAWS to host the fourth annual Fast Friday: Hamilton County Athletes Unite at UC's Sheakley Lawn, Armory Field House, and Gettler Stadium.

Nearly 230 Special Olympians and coaches participated in the event this year. The day started with track related events such as the long jump, football toss, and the 50 and 200 meter dash and wheelchair race at the Armory Fieldhouse. The morning ended with a relay race where the participants were able to team up with UC students and student-athletes and compete alongside them.

After the morning of events, the participants were served pizza and subs for lunch, followed by an afternoon of informal games of kickball, whiffleball, and many others. In charge of this event was RallyCats member and creator of Fast Friday, Kendall Adkins, who said the event was once again a success.

"We're fortunate to have the facilities we do and to be able to host an event in which UC students and student-athletes can give back to the community by spending time with and getting to know local Special Olympians."

She said while a lot of work goes into this event, it is worth it in the end to see the difference she has made. In her final year as a University of Cincinnati student, she said was pleased with the outcome of this year's Fast Friday.

"The event was successful because there were many student volunteers and personnel in the Department of Athletics that helped to create an event that's meaningful to all who are involved."
