AUCKLAND , New Zealand - Former University of Cincinnati men's soccer player Tim Brown was named today (May 10) to the New Zealand World Cup roster for next month's 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
Brown played at UC from 2000-2003, earning academic all-America honors as well as all-Conference USA, all-Ohio, and all-region accolades. He has played in New Zealand's national pool for nearly a decade and has captained the All Whites since 2007.
Brown will act as vice-captain for the 2010 World Cup.
New Zealand topped their Oceania qualification group comfortably, winning its first five games before beating Bahrain 1-0 on aggregate to qualify for the World Cup. The Kiwis are making just their second appearance in the World Cup, last qualifying in 1982.
New Zealand is in Group F with defending World Cup champion Italy, Paraguay, and Slovakia. The All Whites take on Slovakia in their cup opener in Rustenburg, South Africa, on June 15.
