CINCINNATI - A day removed from the 2010 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, University of Cincinnati senior catcher Jimmy Jacquot (Swansea, Ill./Belleville East) and the Seattle Mariners have agreed to a free agent contract allowing the Bearcats top home run threat and run producer in 2010 to extend his playing career.

Jacquot will begin his professional career with Seattle's Class-A affiliate, the Everett Aquasox.

Jacquot was tabbed a third-team all-BIG EAST Conference performer this season after hitting .292 and collecting a team-best 13 home runs and 50 RBI. In addition to his power numbers, Jacquot also led the squad in runs scored (41) and slugging percentage (.555), while tying for the team lead in doubles (14).

The Swansea, Ill., native notched 17 multi-hit games and 14 multi-RBI contests, while proving to be an asset defensively. Jacquot led the BIG EAST in runners caught stealing in overall games and runners picked off in conference-only contests.

During his senior season, Jacquot had a knack for coming through in the clutch as five of his 13 home runs came in the eighth inning or later and three of those five home runs were either go-ahead or game-tying round-trippers. One of his late-inning go-ahead home runs came against West Virginia on May 1, which was his second home run of that game marking his first career multi-home run contest.

During the final series of the regular season against Georgetown, Jacquot was named BIG EAST Player of the Week after hitting .600 against the Hoyas, clinching the first weekly honor of his career.
