EUGENE, Ore. - In his first appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, sophomore Brian Zimmerman (Sarver, Pa./Freeport) placed 19th in the javelin Thursday evening at Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus.

After fouling in his first throw, Zimmerman registered a throw of 208' 04", which ended up being his top mark after reaching 207' 05" in his third and final attempt. When all was said and done, the 208' 04" cemented a 19th-place showing.

Zimmerman capped off a career season by reaching the NCAAs, becoming the first Cincinnati track & field athlete to reach the NCAA Championships in the javelin in program history.

On the season, Zimmerman won the javelin in five of the seven meets he competed in, while adding a fifth-place showing at the NCAA First and Second Rounds before finishing 19th at the NCAA Championships.

Entering the season, Zimmerman held the school record in the javelin with a mark of 204' and he surpassed that mark in every meet he competed in this season. To open the season, Zimmerman shattered the school record with a throw of 226' at the Early Bird Relays and later surpassed that record with a toss of 227' 10" at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships en route to becoming a conference champion.

By making it to the NCAA Championships, Zimmerman extended Cincinnati's streak to 10 consecutive seasons of having one of its athletes reach the NCAA Track & Field Championships.
